The antenatal profile includes essential tests for protecting and monitoring the health of a pregnant woman and her developing child.

Health problems detected by these tests can often be treated during pregnancy or immediately after birth, allowing you and your baby to have a safer pregnancy and stay as healthy as possible.

The Full Blood Count (FBC) counts the number and relative proportion of each of the different types of cells in your blood. It is a routine test that provides information about the size, shape and relative maturity of the blood cells present in your blood at that moment.

The urine exam (urinalysis) can determine whether or not a woman is ovulating or pregnant and can show the presence of any abnormal products in the urine such as sugar, protein or blood.

An Atypical antibody (Ab) screen detectspotentially harmfulatypical red blood cell antibodies in the mother’s blood, which may cause haemolytic disease of the newborn. It is also used to determine a pregnant woman’s blood group (A, B, AB, or O) and whether she is Rh-positive or Rh-negative.

The syphilis IgG test (SYPGN / Syphilis Antibody, IgG, Serum) is recommended for antenatal syphilis screening. A positive antibody test result indicates prior exposure to syphilis.

The iron (Fe) test checks forabnormally low or high blood iron levels and how well iron is metabolized.

The thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) test measures the amount of TSH in your blood produced by the pituitary gland andis useful for evaluating thyroid function.

The glucose test measures the level of sugar in your blood and indicates how efficiently your body is metabolizing sugars.
