Amenorrhea is the absence of a woman’s menstrual period during her reproductive age. Women who have missed at least three consecutive menstrual periods have amenorrhea and this can be a sign of a complex set of hormonal problems.

The Follicle-Stimulating Hormone (FSH) test checks your levels of the hormone FSH that increase during menopause. FSH is responsible for stimulating egg maturation as well as oestradiol production, another hormone that is a form of estrogen.

The Luteinising Hormone (LH) test measures the level of this hormone in the bloodstream which is important for both male and female fertility. LH helps regulate menstruation and ovulation in women while in men LH stimulates testosterone production.

The Oestradiol (E2) Blood Test is a test that checks the oestradiol, also known as 17 beta-oestradiol, level in your blood and determines your ovaries’ ability to produce eggs.

The Prolactin (PRL) blood test checks the level of this hormone that is released from the pituitary gland into the blood stream.  The function of prolactin is to stimulate breast development and milk production in women.  Prolactin levels are found in very small amounts in men. Prolactin levels are part of investigation for female and male infertility and for follow up of low testosterone in men.
