Lyme disease is caused by the Borrelia burgdorferi, a bacterial species of the spirochete class of the genus Borrelia.
Lyme disease is transmitted to humans through the bite of Ixodes species ticks. Immunoblot is used for confirming stage 1 (IgM), stage 2 and 3 (IgG) Lyme disease.
